The water sector in Vietnam

Vietnam is one of the countries in the world receives more rainfall and yet can not be considered a country rich in water. Although the total amount of water in its territory is around 835 billion cubic meters annually and are 1,167,000 square kilometers covered by river water, climatic and geographical conditions generate such irregularity in the accumulation of water, which Vietnam has to face serious problems supply. In fact, precipitation that contribute 85% of water is concentrated in the rainy season, which lasts between 4 and 5 months and 60% of the river water is concentrated in the Cuu Long River Delta (river basin Mekong). The rest is distributed throughout the country, home to almost 80% of the total population and produces the vast majority of trade. According to the National Strategic Plan for Water Resources (PNER) adopted by the Government in 2006, climate change will make the total water volume in 2025, 2070 and 2100 is 96%, 81% and 86% respectively higher than the current . This makes the upgrading of infrastructure should be one of the central themes in the politics of water management and sustainable development is the note that characterizes this reform process.
