This manual addresses two target groups, the first being small and medium sized tourism enterprises in developing countries, Small Island Developing States and developing tourist destinations who do not have access to basic information, and the second being companies and larger hotel chains involved in solid waste and water management. This manual aims to promote best practices in solid waste and water management whilst also reinforcing and supplementing the strategies and practices that the tourism industry has already established in many places. The manual provides guidelines and examples of how tourism operations can achieve positive results and minimize harm to a community's ecological and physical systems.
