A dry year like the present has raised some social alarm regarding the supply and demand water in our country. While different public powers are striving to raise to lower end user demand, there are measures that allow a more rational supply. Among other measures, optimal management of groundwater and the reduction of seepage losses in the reservoirs will optimally streamline the water supply. This course provides tools to simulate the mechanisms of infiltration and groundwater flow. Among the models for flow simulation in saturated porous media, the model is MODFLOW with far the most used tool, both by government and by private consultants. The existence of powerful preprocessors has greatly facilitated the work of data entry to this type of models but has not resolved the need for a solid foundation for hydrogeological ensure that the model outlined by the user matches the physical system to be modeled.
