Water Treatment and Purification: What Role for Renewable Energy?

At a time when global warming and desertification are issues of major concern, transporting water, making it potable, purifying wastewater, and desalinization require energy currently produced mainly from fossil fuel whose depletion is inevitable. This constraint leads in some cases to use renewable energy to treat water under conditions that are technically and economically viable. In this context, the Unit for Development of Solar Equipment "UDES", the UNESCO SIMEV Chair, partner of the European Institute of Membranes (Montpellier, France), will be organizing a week-long training session dedicated to water treatment and purification and the role that renewable energy could play. This training session will facilitate access to technologies and paradigms necessary to rethink methods of treatment and purification.
