EnviroWater 2006: ‘Concepts for Water Management and Multifunctional Land-Uses in Lowlands

Alianza Holandesa del Agua (NWP), Países Bajos; Grupo de Planificación del Uso de Tierras y Centro para el Agua y el Clima de la Universidad/Centro de Investigación de Wageningen, Países Bajos

Wed, 17/05/2006 / Fri, 19/05/2006

Lowlands in general and delta regions and floodplains in particular are often among the most densely populated places on earth. With the rapid population growth in these regions the risks of floods and droughts is increasing, and salt water intrusion is expected to become more widespread. It is also likely that climate change will accelerate these trends.

This conference will address the following topics:
• opportunities and threats
• water and climate change
• groundwater and salt water intrusion
• water management systems as a steering instrument for planning
• multifunctional land uses as an approach to the problems of lowlands and deltas.
