The production and use of energy and capture and use of water are vital to the economy and the health and welfare of all nations, and the wise stewardship of these resources is essential to protecting our environment. The Americas is a very large and diverse region, physically, culturally, and institutionally. There is not a "one size fits all" set of water-energy solutions for this region. Therefore, it is important for us as a community to reach out and engage the various government representatives, academicians, private sectors, water users and civil society, and others throughout the region to better understand local, national, sub-regional and regional water and energy related needs and desires. Working together as a community we can educate one another, and share our knowledge and case studies to promote sound policies and practices that recognize the interdependency between water and energy and promote the wise development and use of these resources in an environmentally responsible manner.
