With a GDP of USD 4.3 trillion in 2010, good economic performance, a favourable demographics and a rich base of natural resources; LAC has a unique opportunity to significantly improve its services of water and sanitation over the next 10-20 years. The goal of the region is to achieve universal coverage of high quality water services by 2030, within the specific challenges of the most urbanized and more unequal region of the world. The session will focus on "how to" solutions that have been proven successful in LAC that could be replicable to other countries of the region and the world. Solutions will be discussed from a multi-sector approach encompassing financing infrastructure development, policies and institutions to improve governance leading to adequate levels of efficiency in service delivery while significantly reducing informality by reducing urban slums; within an integrated approach to environmental management and climate change adaptation. Opportunities to enhance implementation of Human Right to water will permeate the discussion. Diverse models of service provision will be analyzed: -Communal model for rural areas - Public, mixed and private models for urban areas There is no single water management model; the adequate model will depend on the socio-economic and environmental surrounding.
