Italy underwater from Liguria to Sicily

Mon, 25/09/2006

A wave of violent storms battered Italy from the Liguria Region to the tip of the island of Sicily. Floods damaged buildings in parts of Savona Province and forced many families in the city of Savona to flee their homes. In Ancona Province, still recovering from the floods of ten days ago, 200 businesses suffered from serious damage. Landslides and floods occurred all along the coast from Falconara to Pesaro and within Macerata Province. Many streets in the city of Rome were flooded, as were roads in Napoli Province. The Sarno River in Salerno Province overflowed and National Fire Department staff spent an entire night rescuing stranded inhabitants.
