"Lake Viverone is reviving"

Mon, 25/09/2006

Thanks to a cleanup project in Lake Viverone, in Italy's Biella Province, an aquaculture industry can now be launched that will - authorities hope - save the coregone, a fish that's on the verge of disappearing because of pollution. Provincial President Sergio Scaramal will inaugurate the new fish farm this week. Fish eggs will be incubated inside glass bells and the fingerlings released into the lake two months later; they'll be fed on plankton raised in nearby ponds. Eventually, the whole ecosystem is expected to return to normal.
