Modelling high concentration mud suspensions in Lower Scheldt River

Mon, 14/02/2005

WL | Delft Hydraulics has been commissioned by the Flemish Government to improve and refine our capabilities for modelling high concentration mud suspensions in the Lower Scheldt River.
The main objective of the study is to gain insight into changes in the fine sediment dynamics in the Lower Scheldt that may occur as a result of the construction of the Deurgankdok. The study will include making improvements to the Delft3D morphological module to improve the description of cohesive sediment dynamics and to include processes such as flocculation, density currents, formation of fluid mud, consolidation and erosion in a fully-3D modelling environment. The improved Delft3D system will then be used to model various scenarios related to the Deurgankdok as well as for dredging and dumping scenarios in the Lower Scheldt.
