This publication provides a snapshot of key water quality issues as they relate to achieving the international goals on water, sanitation and biodiversity. Significant emerging threats to water quality, ranging from climate change to invasive species, and from waterborne pathogens to chemical contaminants are highlighted.
The report calls on Governments to place a priority on investing in improved risk assessment technologies, improving cooperation on water basin management, and creating joint environmental management and scientific assessments to manage the 263 international water bodies on our planet.
