[Current trends in the water management in Latin America and the Caribbean]
The aim of this document is to evaluate the progress in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean in the implementation of the recommendations of the chapter 18 "Protection of the quality and the supply of fresh water resources: application of criterions for the use and arrange of fresh water resources" from the 21 Programme, which was approved in the UN Conference on Environment and Development (Rio de Janeiro, 3-14 June 1992). It can be said that the people that manage the water resources are interested in adopting a framework for the integral water management. Although there are advances, in the most of the cases the management systems haven´t been developed in the right way to obtain this purpose
