The International Workshop on ‘Policies and Strategic Options of Water Management in Islamic Countries’, held in Tehran, Iran, 15-16 December 2003 – which brought together experts, university professors, decision-makers and governmental and non-governmental organizations, from UNESCO, UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education, the World Water Assessment Programme, INWRDAM (Inter-Islamic Network on Water Resources Development and Management) as well as from different countries – was a step forward towards founding principles of integrated water resources management in the Islamic countries, in compliance with the declaration of the Johannesburg Summit.
