The effect of climate change on water resources: a global synthesis of findings and recommendations

It is expected that climate change will alter the hydrological cycle and affecting freshwater resources. Groundwater is a critical source of drinking water for nearly half the world population, apart from supplying irrigation needs of agriculture. Groundwater is also important for the maintenance of streams, lakes, wetlands and associated ecosystems. But despite all this, knowledge about the impact of climate change on groundwater quality and quantity is limited.
