LIFE-Environment Programme
LIFE + Programme is the only financial instrument of the European Union dedicated exclusively, the environment for 2007-2013. The overall objective is to contribute to the implementation, updating and development of policy and legislation in environmental matters, including the integration of environment into other policies. In particular, LIFE + will support the implementation of the PMA, including the thematic strategies, and finance measures and projects with European added value in the States.
The specific objectives of the thematic scope LIFE + Nature and Biodiversity are:
- Contribute to the implementation of policy and legislation on nature and biodiversity, in particular Directives 79/409/EEC and 92/43/EEC, including local and regional level and support the further development and implementation of Natura 2000 network, including the habitats and coastal and marine species.
- Contribute to strengthening the knowledge base for the development, assessment, monitoring and evaluation of policy and legislation on nature and biodiversity.
- Support the design and implementation of approaches and tools for monitoring and assessing the nature and biodiversity and the factors, pressures and responses that impact on them, particularly in relation to achieving the target of halting the loss of biodiversity in the Community by 2010 and the threat of climate change for nature and biodiversity.
- Promote better governance in the field of environment, encouraging the participation of stakeholders, including NGOs, in consultations on policy and legislation on nature and biodiversity and its implementation.
