How can we drastically turn the shameful situation on access to water and sanitation of many countries in the Americas, into a new reality in one decade, at least? Some countries' commitments are necessary but some correct directions are crucial to achieve the goals. • Some countries have experienced important solutions aiming at overcoming its challenges and working towards universalization of access to water and sanitation. They are based on: (i) a favourable environment: Chile, Brazil, Colombia and Peru; (ii) active governance: Argentina, Colombia, Guatemala, Chile and Brazil; and, (iii) adequate financing: Chile, U.S., and Bolivia. Those solutions can be replicated because they can be adapted to the many different situations and disparities faced in the Americas.
