Six separate entities, in a joint document presented to the new Environment Minister, have called on the government to empower local municipal authorities to increase the cost of water by up to 100 percent whenever a consumer is found to be using “excessive water”. Current estimates show that average consumption is 120 litres per day for the average family numbering 3.5 people.
